As we take in the first few days of the New Year the talk revolves around resolutions or weight loss, new directions and higher ideals. Each year in many ways brings the same thing, a cyclical pattern where we hope for more but usually settle for less. Each year seems to ticks away at and ever increasing pace. 2014 to 2015 and now 2016. (Maybe this is the year my gym membership will finally start paying off!)
It is in the midst of the hurricane of the habitual, in the challenges and uncertainty of the future, that Scripture gives us a great hope:
2 Peter 3:13-But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
Regardless of what changes in the New Year, we know the One who has time itself in His hands. Instead of history repeating itself indefinitely, God shows us that his plans are moving forward to a point of power and practicality.
Instead of another New Year chasing the world’s standards, just watching time tick away, let’s remember that this year is unlike any before. This is the day that the LORD has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! We have the opportunity to use our temporary time for an eternal and enduring purpose. Happy New Years! God bless!
