The road towards discipleship has been a progressive building process. Belief with conversion—personally being changed which injects truth, wholeness, and stability into your family, and it is the family which is the bedrock of the…
CHURCH (As God designed)-In Ephesians 5, a few verse earlier, Paul wrote that in the family we get a glimpse of something else: 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[a] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.
Paul highlights the value that Christ placed on the church-not an afterthought, but a well thought out connection. In fact, the church from the beginning was the extension of Christ into the world. Jesus is always the head and heart, and his disciples the hands and feet. We can start to think of church in a lot of different ways though, many of them less than pleasant, but today I want to remind you of why we need to build the church.
Pastor J. John in giving his job description gives each of us a fresh perspective as to what we are called to be part of, the heights of which we can reach, and the mission of Christ. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=815124448524086
Does that get your heart pumping a little bit? Building the church is so much bigger than just being in a pew on Sunday, but that is absolutely where it starts. “In a certain mountain village in Europe several centuries ago, a nobleman wondered what legacy he could leave to his fellow townspeople. At last he decided to build them a church building to meet in. No one saw the complete plans for the church until it was finished. When the people gathered, they marveled at its beauty and completeness. Then someone asked, ‘but where are the lamps? How will it be lighted? ’The nobleman pointed to some brackets on the walls. Then he gave to each family a lamp which they were to bring with them each time they came to worship. Each time you are here the area where you are seated will be lighted,” the nobleman said. ‘Each time you are not here, that area will be dark. This is to remind you that whenever you fail to come to church, some part of God’s people will be in the dark.’” It is critical that we realize the eternal potential we have by being created in the Image of God, empowered with the Presence of God, and given the potential to invest in the mission of God!
I am sure you’ve had those mornings where you hear the whisper, “I DON”T REALLY NEED TO GO, NO ONE WILL NOTICE ANYWAY!” but remember that with your presence you are BUILDING something—building on your conversion, building up your family, and helping bring light and life to the church so we together, can help carry out the work of Christ’s global enterprise: the church.
When we believe the truth of Christ, when we become through the power of the Holy Spirit, we have the opportunity to build up the church—not for our benefit, but to fundamentally love our neighbor as ourselves. Creating a place where they can hear the truth of Christ, where they can experience the presence of the Holy Spirit—where each person can have the opportunity to walk out of the bondage of sin and into the bright sun and experience true FREEDOM! If not you then who? If not now than when, and if not here, then where?
